AI Humanizer Dev tools

Rewrite AI-generated text to sound human and score its AI signature — 100% client-side

AI Humanizer

Paste text that reads like a machine wrote it. This tool rewrites the patterns that give AI writing away — stock openers, LLM vocabulary, em dashes, bloated phrasing and invisible characters — and shows you an AI-signature score before and after. The rewrite runs as a deterministic rule engine in your browser, so by default your text never leaves this page. An optional AI pass is available on top, and it is clearly marked because it does send your text to a third party.

Optional: rewrite with AI first

The rule engine can only swap patterns it knows. An AI pass can also restructure sentences and vary their rhythm — the one thing rules cannot do. The result is then run back through the rule engine, because in our testing the model left the most obvious clichés in place and introduced its own typography tells.

This sends your text to a third party. The AI pass calls z.ai (Zhipu AI, based in China) over an encrypted connection. We do not store your text, but they process it under their own terms. Do not use AI mode for confidential, personal or client data — the rule engine above handles that case without any network request.

A heuristic estimate of how machine-written the text looks — not proof, and not a detector's verdict.

This tool improves tone, concision and readability. It does not claim to defeat any AI-detection service, and no tool honestly can — detector outputs are probabilistic and change without notice. Use it to make writing better, and disclose AI assistance wherever your school, publisher or employer requires it.

What Makes Text Read as “AI-Written”?

Large language models leave a consistent stylistic fingerprint. They open with scene-setting filler, reach for the same small set of elevated words, pad sentences with qualifiers, keep every sentence roughly the same length, and punctuate with em dashes and curly quotes far more often than people do. None of these are errors — that is exactly why they are hard to notice while editing. This humanizer targets those patterns one by one and shows you each edit, so you keep control of the result instead of handing your draft to another model.

      How the AI-Signature Score Works

The score combines twelve independent signals and weights them into a single 0–100 estimate. Each signal is also shown on its own bar so you can see why a text scores the way it does, and how much each edit moved it:

      • Cliché and vocabulary density — matches per 100 words against the rule sets above.
      • Burstiness — the coefficient of variation of sentence length. Humans vary wildly; models converge on a comfortable middle.
      • Paragraph uniformity — the same measure applied to paragraph length.
      • Transition-word openings — the share of sentences starting with Moreover, Furthermore, Additionally and friends.
      • Contraction use — how often contractible phrases are left expanded.
      • Punctuation fingerprint — em dash, curly quote and semicolon rates.
      • Lexical diversity — type-token ratio measured over a moving 50-word window.
      • Rule-of-three — the X, Y and Z triplet models love.
      • Structural repetition — repeated sentence openers and bold-lead-in bullet lists.
      • Invisible characters — zero-width and non-breaking spaces that survive copy-paste.

Short inputs are scored conservatively: below roughly 180 words the signals are statistically thin, so the score is pulled toward the middle rather than reported with false confidence.

      How to Use It Well

      1. Paste your draft. The rewrite, the score and the change list update as you type.
      2. Start on Balanced. Use Light for formal or academic writing where contractions would be wrong, and Bold when you want filler words gone too.
      3. Read the change list. If a category is making edits you disagree with, switch it off — the whole group reverts instantly.
      4. Check Sentence rhythm. The single most effective humanising edit is one the tool deliberately will not make for you: breaking up long sentences and varying their length. It flags the candidates; you make the call.
      5. Hit Re-run to feed the result back through for a second pass, then edit by hand. A rule engine gets you most of the way; judgement finishes the job.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Is my text uploaded anywhere?

Not by default. The rule engine — rules, rewriting and scoring — is JavaScript running in your browser: nothing is sent to our servers, logged or stored. You can confirm this by opening DevTools → Network while the tool runs, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads; it keeps working. The one exception is the optional Rewrite with AI button, which is off unless you press it. That button does send your text to a third-party model provider, and it says so directly above the button.

Does it use ChatGPT or another AI model?

The default rewrite does not. It is a deterministic rule engine: the same input always produces the same output, every edit is shown to you, and there is no API cost, queue or rate limit. It cannot restructure a sentence the way a model can — but it also cannot invent facts, drift off topic or quietly change what you said. If you want restructuring, the optional AI pass uses GLM-4.7-Flash via z.ai, and its output is always run back through the rule engine afterwards.

Why run the rule engine after the AI, instead of just trusting the AI?

Because we measured it. On our test paragraph the rule engine took the AI-signature score from 24 to 0; the model alone only reached 19, left the single most obvious cliché (“In today's fast-paced digital world”) untouched, and added a curly apostrophe — a typography tell of its own. Language models are good at rhythm and structure and unreliable at removing their own fingerprints, so the deterministic pass gets the last word.

      Will this bypass AI detectors?

We do not claim that, and you should be sceptical of tools that do. AI detectors are probabilistic, they disagree with each other, they produce false positives on human writing, and they change without notice. What this tool genuinely does is remove the stylistic tells that make writing feel machine-made — which usually makes it better writing, whatever any detector says about it.

What are the invisible characters it removes?

Zero-width spaces, zero-width joiners, word joiners, byte-order marks and non-breaking spaces. They are invisible on screen but survive copy-paste, and they are common in text copied out of chat interfaces and rich-text editors. They can also break search, string comparison and code — removing them is worth doing regardless of how the text was written.

      Does it work with Turkish?

Yes. Turkish has its own set of tells, and the tool ships a dedicated rule set for them: the -maktadır/-mektedir construction that formal machine output overuses, the … bir şekilde adverb pattern, and formula openers like Günümüzün hızla gelişen dünyasında. Turkish verbs are converted with proper vowel harmony, so artırmaktadır becomes artırıyor and gelmektedir becomes geliyor. Language is auto-detected, or you can set it manually.

Will it break my code snippets, links or Markdown?

No. Before any rule runs, the engine masks fenced code blocks, inline code, URLs, email addresses, HTML tags, Markdown link targets and @mentions. Those segments are restored untouched afterwards, so array.leverage() stays exactly as written even though the word leverage is on the rewrite list. List indentation is preserved too.

Why did it change the meaning of a sentence?

Substituting a phrase can shift nuance — that is unavoidable when you replace plays a crucial role in with is central to. This is why every edit is listed rather than applied silently, why categories can be switched off individually, and why Light mode exists. Always read the result before you use it.
