How to install an agent skill
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a short description the agent reads to decide when to use it, followed by instructions and optional scripts. Pick the method your agent supports.
With the Skills CLI (most agents)
Asks which of the repository's skills to install and for which agents. Add -g to install for your user rather than the current project.
npx skills add owner/repo
Install a single skill from a collection with npx skills add owner/repo --skill skill-name.
By hand in Claude Code
Copy the skill's folder, with its SKILL.md, into one of these locations. Claude Code picks it up in the next session.
~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md # every project
.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md # this project only
As a Claude Code plugin
Some repositories ship a plugin marketplace. Add it once, then install the plugins you want from the /plugin menu.
/plugin marketplace add owner/repo
Other agents that read SKILL.md use their own skills folder — the repository's README names the path.
How the ranking works
- Rising — stars gained per day, measured from our own daily snapshots of every tracked repository. New repositories count from zero.
- Best of the year — created this calendar year, ordered by stars.
- All-time top and New arrivals — total stars; new means created in the last 30 days.
- Editor's Picks — chosen and reviewed by the DevSly team, in our own order. Picks are also pinned to the top of every ranking — Rising, Best of the year, All-time and New arrivals — in their own shelf with the award badge instead of a rank number; the ranking below them is unchanged.
- Every ranking lists every matching repository — keep scrolling to load more. Agent and type filters and search cover everything we track.
- Bars compare each repository with the leader of the ranking you are viewing, on a square-root scale so the long tail stays readable. In Rising a bar shows how fast a repository gains stars — the same measure the ranking uses (stars per day, damped for very new repositories, so it can differ from the raw number beside it); elsewhere it shows total stars.
- Agent logos on each row show which agents the repository targets, taken from its own topics and description (hover a logo for its name).
- Badges come only from measured data: Trending — among the 20 fastest-rising repositories with 25+ new stars; New — created in the last 30 days; Active — updated in the last 14 days; Multi-agent — targets three or more agents; N skills — the
SKILL.mdfiles we found in the repository. - Detail pages — select a repository's name to see what each of its skills does, in the author's own words from its
SKILL.md, plus install commands and similar skills.
Sources: GitHub topic searches (agent-skills, claude-skills, claude-code-skills and more) plus the links in popular awesome lists. A repository is listed when its topics or description show it is a skill repository; forks and archived repositories are left out. All numbers come from the GitHub public API.
Review before you install
A skill is a set of instructions and scripts your agent will follow, and it can run code on your machine. Everything here is a community repository: read the SKILL.md and any scripts before you install one.
Only Editor's Picks have been reviewed by us, and repositories change after review — check the version you install.
Submit your skill
Built an agent skill? Send us its GitHub repository. We check that it is a public skill repository and list it — there is no minimum star count, and it joins the daily ranking like every other repository.
You need a free DevSly account to submit a repository, so we can tell you when it is reviewed.
Sign in to submitWhat we check
- A public GitHub repository with agent skills (a
SKILL.md) or a curated list of them. - The original repository — forks and archived repositories are not listed.
- Up to 5 submissions per account per day.
Listing is not a security review — only Editor's Picks are reviewed by us. Read a skill's SKILL.md and scripts before you install it.
Frequently asked questions
What is an agent skill?
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file: a short description the agent reads to decide when the skill applies, followed by instructions and, optionally, scripts and reference files. The agent loads the full skill only when a task needs it, so you can install many without filling its context.
Which agents can use these skills?
The SKILL.md format started with Claude and a growing number of coding agents now read it. The agent badges on each card (Claude, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, Copilot, OpenCode) come from the repository's own topics and description, so they show what the author targets — check the README for exact support.
How is the ranking calculated?
Every day we search GitHub for skill repositories and follow the links in popular awesome lists. We record each repository's stars once a day: Rising ranks by stars gained per day, Best of the year and All-time rank by total stars, and New Arrivals covers repositories created in the last 30 days. Forks and archived repositories are left out.
How often is the list updated?
Once a day. The date at the top of the page shows the last successful update.
Are these skills safe to install?
Treat them like any code from the internet. A skill can instruct your agent to run commands, so read the SKILL.md and any scripts before installing. Editor's Picks have been reviewed by the DevSly team, but a repository can change after review.
How do I get my skill listed?
Submit its GitHub repository with the "Submit your skill" form on this page (you need a DevSly account). We check that it is a public skill repository — not a fork or an archive — and list it with no minimum star count. Repositories tagged agent-skills, claude-skills, codex-skills or similar are also picked up automatically by the daily sync once they reach 20 stars. Listing is not a security review.
