ICO to PNG Converter Converters

Open an .ico or .cur file and download every icon inside it as a PNG, one by one or as a .zip. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded, no sign-up.

Drop an .ico file here or click to browse .ico or .cur · up to 25 MB · nothing is uploaded

Your file stays on your device. This page never sends it anywhere.

How to convert ICO to PNG

  1. Drop your .ico file on the box above, or click it to choose the file.
  2. The page lists every image stored in the file, with its size and colour depth.
  3. Press Download PNG under the size you need, or Download all as .zip for the whole set.

What is inside an ICO file?

An ICO file is a small container that can hold several images of the same icon at different sizes, from 16×16 up to 256×256 pixels. Each image is stored either as a PNG or as an older bitmap with a separate transparency mask. This converter reads the container, decodes every image and gives it back as a normal PNG with its transparency intact. PNG images inside the ICO are passed through byte for byte, so nothing is re-compressed.

Is it private?

Yes. The file is parsed and converted by JavaScript in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and once the page has loaded the conversion needs no network connection.

Frequently asked questions

Is my icon uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and converted in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Why do I get several PNG files from one ICO?

An ICO can hold several sizes of the same icon, for example 16×16, 32×32 and 48×48. You can download just the size you need, or all of them as a zip.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. PNG images inside the ICO are passed through unchanged, and older bitmap images are converted with their transparency mask.

How do I get the favicon of a website as a PNG?

Open https://example.com/favicon.ico in your browser, save the file and drop it here. Not every site uses /favicon.ico; some declare PNG or SVG icons in the page head instead.

Can it open CUR cursor files?

Yes. The CUR format has the same structure as ICO, so the images are extracted the same way. The cursor hotspot is not kept.

Which ICO files are not supported?

Bitmap icons that use compression (rare) and damaged files cannot be read. The other images in the same file are still converted.
